Celebrations, Illustrations & Snazzy Merch
We've hit over 150,000 downloads and to celebrate I've teamed up with the amazing Luke Healy to put together some kick ass merch.
It's a great way to help support the show, plus who doesn't love a historically themed tshirt? As always, keen to hear what you folks think.

Hey everyone, this is just a quick note to announce something I’m pretty excited about. Recently the podcast hit over 150,000 downloads, which is frankly insane. Thank you all so much for listening, I hope you’re enjoying it half as much as I am. I wanted to do something to celebrate, and a few of you had asked about merch, so I figured let’s give it a try.
So I got in touch with a friend of mine, Luke Healy, to help us out. Luke is a phenomenal illustrator, I love his stuff. He’s won a bunch of awards and been featured in The New Yorker, Vice, The Guardian and more. Before we go any further, you have to check out his book Americana, it’s amazing. It’s about how he walked from the Mexico-California border up to Canada. Yeah, all 2,260 miles of it. Go check it out.
Anyway, Luke is awesome, and we stuck our heads together to create a History of Ireland t-shirt. He’s done a really fun Where’s Wally-esque illustration of Dublin, with Collins, Dev, Gladstone, Griffith and everyone all illustrated and hanging out in a very apocryphal manner. There’s a white and green t-shirt, a poster and even a mug. They’re all top quality and have passed my fashionable little sister’s stringent quality control tests, so you know you’re getting the best.
Picking up any of them is a great way to support the podcast. But also, even if you never wanted me to make another episode again, I reckon they make for pretty cool shirts. You can check it all out at the new merch section of the website, www.thehistoryofireland.com. I’ve also thrown the link in the episode description.
And I know, during Covid it’s probably less than ideal to be doing this, but I’ve been testing out delivery times and they’re pretty good. Currently in Europe it’s taking just under 3 weeks and is getting quicker all the time. Australia seems to be at 2 and I haven’t been able to test America yet, but they tell me it’s sitting at about 3-4 weeks. And they tell me it should all speed up soon enough.
Anyway, I hope you like them. It’s a great illustration on really good quality t-shirts and it helps make it possible for me to keep rabbiting on about Irish history. Plus who knows, if this goes well maybe we can make some more. I’d have an idea for a sick dev metal bandit bouncing around my head. But that’s getting ahead of ourselves.
Now I’ll stop selling you stuff and get back to finishing the next episode. Should be out on Tuesday. Chat then.
